Nollywood actor, Prince Eke, has described the life imprisonment sentence handed to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, as a political stunt.
Naijaonpoint reports that Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had earlier convicted Kanu on all seven counts levelled against him by the Federal Government.
The judge sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment for count 1, 2, 4,5, and 6.
He also sentenced Kanu to 20 years for count 3 without option of fine.
The Judge sentenced Kanu to five years in prison on count seven without option of fine.
In a post via Instagram on Friday, Eke said there are plans to release Nnamdi Kanu in 2027, and his freedom will be used to bargain for Igbo votes.
He wrote, “Let us call it what it is, MNK’s life sentence was a political stunt. They plan to release him in 2027 and use his freedom to bargain for Igbo votes. This isn’t justice. it’s exploitation. Nigerians are awake. We see the script, and we’re not fooled.”
Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu‘s willingness to listen to the pleas of well-meaning Igbo leaders regarding the convicted IPOB leader.
Kalu made this known in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by his Chief Press Secretary, Livinus Nwabughiogu.
Kalu expressed optimism that Kanu will be freed through a political approach, stressing that the President will not be averse to it.
According to him, all hope for Kalu’s freedom is not lost despite the conviction.
He urged the people of the South East, and indeed all Nigerians, to remain calm.
