Kenny Okolugbo, a media aide to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has petitioned IGP Kayode Egbetokun over what he described as a calculated cyberattack and defamation campaign against him.
In a petition submitted on June 16, 2025, Okolugbo alleged that his verified X (formerly Twitter) account was hacked and used to publish false statements, which were later manipulated and circulated by popular online influencers.
He specifically named Tunde Ednut, Rufai Oseni, and Adeola Fayehun as those who allegedly amplified the fake post with fabricated details including claims of phone cloning, voice manipulation, and a fictitious meeting in London.
Part of the petition read: “These allegations are not only untrue but impossible based on verified evidence.
“The fabricated post was simultaneously circulated and embellished by these influencers using identical language and coordinated timing, pointing to a syndicated disinformation campaign.”
He claimed the motive behind the campaign was to give credibility to earlier allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, insisting the defamatory content did not originate from him and was never part of the hacked post.
Okolugbo said the incident amounted to cyber impersonation, forgery, and defamation — all offenses under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
He urged the police to identify and prosecute those behind the attack and preserve all digital evidence across platforms to aid a forensic investigation.
As part of his defence, Okolugbo submitted travel records showing he had not visited London in 2025, stating that his last trip to the UK was on November 5, 2024.
He attached printouts of the alleged manipulated content to back his claims.
“The matter is of significant public interest and personal concern,” he added.
