Many are still having a hard time believing Nigerian actress and plus-sized activist Monalisa Stephen is dead.

Kemi Filani reported on Wednesday that the Chief Executive Officer of Best of Nollywood (BON), Seun Oloketuyi, in an Instagram post, had announced her death. He revealed that she died on Tuesday, May 13th, in Lagos after battling with low blood sugar and internal bleeding. He said her immediate younger sister confirmed the news of her death to him.

On Wednesday, the family of the late actress, via her Instagram, announced her burial plans. The movie star would be laid to rest on Thursday, May 22nd, 2025, in an invite-only ceremony. According to the announcement, this is to honour the deceased’s wishes and those of her family.

“We lay our beloved Monalisa Ayobami Stephen to rest this Thursday, May 22nd, 2025.

This will be a private ceremony in honour of her wishes and the family’s. We ask for continued prayers and respect for her memory during this time.

In March, Nollywood lost a veteran, Nkechi Nweje. According to reports, the movie star died after a brief illness.
