The Nigerian government has insisted that claims of genocide against Christians in the country are false and misleading.
Speaking on the matter during an interview appearance with Arise News on Monday, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, explained that what is going on in Nigeria is insecurity that affects many people, irrespective of their religious or ethnic background.
He assured of the commitment of the Tinubu government to fighting and defeating terrorism through enhanced collaboration with international partners, including the United States, adding that the government is also committed to emphasizing the truth about happenings in Nigeria through robust media engagement both nationally and internationally.
Naijaonpoint reports that Bwala made the submissions while speaking against the recent background of comments by the United States President, Donald Trump, who threatened military action over allegations of Christian killings in Nigeria.
“There is no genocide against Christians in Nigeria. What we have is insecurity that affects people of all religious and non-religious beliefs — Muslims, Christians, and others alike.
“Our engagements focus on intelligence sharing, mutual respect, and cooperation, while safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty,” he said.
According to Bwala, the current administration is not focused on the misconstrued claims about religious persecution in Nigeria, but is rather focused on issues that can impact the citizens directly such as security, food security, agriculture, and healthcare.
“If we were to rank the nation’s priorities, this issue would come fourth. Our key focus areas remain security, food security, agriculture, and healthcare,” he said.
The presidential media aide, however, said the government would continue to engage in assertive diplomatic discussions to defend Nigeria’s image and preserve the country’s international goodwill.
“This is about protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and correcting misinformation. The government will continue to engage responsibly and transparently.
“Every Nigerian life matters equally. This administration stands for peace, unity, and fairness across all faiths,” Bwala said.
