Three Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Wednesday defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection was announced during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Naijaonpoint reports that the lawmakers, in separate letters, cited the internal crisis and leadership issues affecting the PDP for their decisions to defect to the APC.
The defectors are:
1. Sen. Ikra Bilbis, Senator representing Zamfara Central
2. Sen. Aminu Iya Abbas, Senator representing the Adamawa Central
3. Sen. Amos Yohanna, Senator representing Adamawa North.
In other news, the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Turaki, has given fresh assurances that the party would field candidates for the 2027 general elections.
The assurance was given by the spokesperson of the faction, Ini Ememobong, who spoke to newsmen on Tuesday after the expanded meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), which included governors, national working committee (NWC) members, state chairmen and other stakeholders.
As earlier reported by Naijaonpoint, the BoT meeting, which held in Abuja, was attended by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Tanimu Turaki, and Umar Damagum.
Others who attended the meeting included ex-PDP Deputy National Chairman Bode George, former Information Minister Jerry Gana, former governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, and several prominent party members.
In his address, Ememobong revealed that the meeting deliberated on the implications of Monday’s Appeal Court judgment with a view to ensuring it remains eligible to participate in the 2027 election.
