‘Thunderstorms, Rains, Likely Flood’ – NIMET Releases Weather Forecast For All States In Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned that certain states may experience thunderstorms and flooding on Tuesday, 12th August, 2025.

The warning was contained in a daily weather outlook released by the agency on Monday evening.

According to NIMET, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in parts of Borno, Bauchi, Jigawa, Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Yobe, Adamawa, and Taraba States on Tuesday.

In the afternoon/evening, thunderstorms with moderate rains are anticipated in parts of Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Borno, Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Taraba, and Adamawa States.

Naijaonpoint reports that the agency predicted high risk of flooding in parts of Adamawa and Taraba States due to persistent rainfall.

For the Central states in the morning, light rains are expected in parts of Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Niger States.

In the afternoon/evening, thunderstorms with moderate rains are anticipated in parts of FCT, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Kwara, and Kogi States.

It also warned that persistent rainfall in Benue poses a high flood risk.

For the Southern states, NIMET predicted cloudy skies with light rains in parts of Imo, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States in the morning.

Moderate rains are expected across the entire southern region in the afternoon and evening.

The agency added in its advisory that residents in flood-prone areas are advised to take precautionary measures. Local authorities, emergency services, and relevant stakeholders are also urged to remain on high alert during this period.
