Tinubu: ‘Assumptions That Northerners Are Against Southern President Is Nonsense’ – Hakeem Baba-Ahmed

Ahmed1

Former Political Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has dismissed claims of Northern conspiracy against President Bola Tinubu and the South.

Naijaonpoint reports that Baba-Ahmed, during an interview on TVC Fireworks on Thursday, stated that the North has consistently voted for a Southern presidential candidate.

According to Baba-Ahmed, in 1993, the North voted for the late MKO Abiola from the Southeast against Tofa, who hailed from the region.

He said, “There is no Northern conspiracy against the South, the North voted for Abiola in 1993 against Tofa. Tofa in his own state lost to Abiola, so the North has a history of voting Southern candidates.

“We voted for Obasanjo twice, we voted for Jonathan in 2011, and Tinubu, so this tendency to think that the Northerners are against the Southern president is nonsense.

“I was part of Buhari’s campaign and I can tell you that one of the reasons and key issues we used to get Buhari elected was to tell Nigerians if you want an end to this weak approach to Boko Haram, this tendency to just throw money at a problem and think it will go away, choose, elect Buhari.”

He also disclosed that Tinubu inherited a terrible security situation from his predecessor, but the problem has neither improved nor worsened.

He added, “President Tinubu inherited a horrible security situation and it hasn’t gotten any worse and hasn’t improved.

“I was a member of the committee appointed by Jonathan to dialogue with Boko Haram and by then insurgency had gone deep, it started under Yar’Adua and dug deeply in.”
