A Lagos lawmaker, Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji, has faulted the recent hardline posture of United States President Donald Trump toward Nigeria, insisting that the Bola Tinubu administration deserves support, commendation, and international collaboration, not threats.
Adedeji, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, stated this in a statement made available to Naijaonpoint on Friday, November 7, in response to Trump’s criticism and threat of possible U.S. military intervention over alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
The lawmaker argued that President Tinubu fully understands the country’s security challenges and has taken decisive steps to confront them.
According to him: “President Bola Tinubu, as a father, is not happy that bandits, terrorists or whatever name-tag they have got, have tried to downplay the gains of this administration. This is why he ordered the newly appointed service chiefs to put a final end to insecurity in the country. The current administration will never pamper terrorists or their sponsors.”
He maintained that the President’s recent overhaul of the military leadership reflects his commitment to stabilising the nation and restoring safety in troubled regions.
Adedeji said Nigeria has recorded measurable economic progress over the last two years, attracting global acknowledgement and investments.
He cited macroeconomic indicators showing signs of recovery, adding: “Different data have shown inflation dropping for the first time in years. The administration has attracted multi-billion-dollar investments while reinvigorating moribund industries. Economic indices continue to prove that the government is on the right track.”
The lawmaker also noted improvements in the value of the naira and increased fiscal capacity among sub-national governments.
“For the first time, state governments are comfortable because they now have a level of economic power,” he said.
Adedeji appealed to the United States to partner with Nigeria rather than heighten tensions.
“What Nigeria deserves at this time is global collaboration from the U.S. and other nations in the interest of our citizens. Let our youth and citizens continue to be patient and trust in the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the lawmaker stressed.
Adedeji urged Nigerians to continue supporting the armed forces and security agencies as they work to defeat terrorism.
“We must encourage our new service chiefs to live up to expectations and ensure they put a final stop to insurgents in the country. Let’s support the government’s giant strides, knowing that the results will best fit our yearnings,” he added.
