PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has congratulated players of Nigerian heritage who won the 2026 NFL Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks, who defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 to claim the Lombardi Trophy in the early hours of Monday in the United States of America.
Jalen Oluwaseun Milroe, Nick Emmanwori, Uchenna Nwosu, Boye Maye, and Olu Oluwatimi were all involved as the Seahawks won their second-ever Super Bowl title.
In a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on Tuesday, Tinubu commended the players for bringing honour to Nigeria, noting that their accomplishment further signified Nigerian excellence.
“President Bola Tinubu congratulates players of Nigerian descent who led the Seattle Seahawks to victory in Super Bowl 60 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Sunday,” the statement said.
“The Seattle Seahawks routed the New England Patriots 29–13 to claim
their second Lombardi Trophy.”
“Players of Nigerian descent on the team’s line-up who helped achieve this victory include Jalen Oluwaseun Milroe, quarterback; Nick Emmanwori, a defensive standout; Uchenna Nwosu, a veteran linebacker; Boye Maye, a linebacker; and Olu Oluwatimi, an irrepressible offensive lineman,” Tinubu said.
“President Tinubu commends all the players for the pride and honour that they have brought to their country of descent, especially Emmanwori, Nwosu, and Maye, who raised Nigeria’s flag after winning the Super Bowl with the Seahawks.
“The president states that these players and their accomplishments affirm Nigerians’ global reputation for excellence and talent.”
Tinubu also sympathised with Patriots Michael Onwenu, also of Nigerian descent, calling him “one of the most dominant offensive linemen.”
The Super Bowl is the annual league championship game of the National Football League (NFL) of the United States.
It has served as the final game of every NFL season since 1966, replacing the NFL Championship Game.
