President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received the President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, on Friday evening at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Although the Presidency did not disclose details of their closed-door session, the meeting is believed to have focused on strengthening regional peace, security cooperation and economic integration within West Africa.
Naijaonpoint reports that Maada Bio, who took over from Tinubu as the chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in June, said discussions covered the bloc’s ongoing efforts to stabilise the sub-region.
In a post on his verified 𝕏 account, the Sierra Leonean leader described the engagement as productive.
He wrote, “I had a productive meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Bio added that, “As chairperson of ECOWAS, we engaged in discussions concerning regional security and the important role of ECOWAS in fostering peace and supporting economic development within our regional community.”
The visit also coincided with his participation in Baze University’s 12th Convocation Ceremony, where he is expected to deliver a keynote address.
Bio said he was in Abuja to also engage with African business leaders as part of efforts to drive investment and growth across the sub-region.
