President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Air Vice Marshal Mikail Abdulraheem as the new Chairman of the Military Pensions Board, marking what authorities describe as a fresh phase of reforms for the welfare of retired military personnel.
The appointment was announced on Tuesday through a statement issued by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Squadron Leader Aliyu Mohammed.
According to the statement, Abdulraheem’s resumption represents a major boost to the Board’s effort to modernise and sanitise pension administration for retired officers and their families.
“The Military Pensions Board wishes to formally announce the appointment of Air Vice Marshal Mikail Abdulraheem as the new Chairman. His assumption of office marks a significant step in the Board’s drive toward enhanced efficiency, transparency, and improved service delivery for military retirees and their families,” the statement read.
A member of the 42 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy, AVM Abdulraheem has served in the Nigerian Air Force for nearly 30 years, earning a reputation for professionalism and discipline.
He is an alumnus of the National Defence College in Bangladesh and holds multiple academic qualifications, including a Master’s Degree in Security Management Studies, a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, and another degree in Accounting.
The statement also noted his professional development across prestigious institutions, including the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and the National Institute of Accountants.
Over the years, he has occupied several strategic positions, among them Managing Director of the Nigerian Air Force Properties Limited, as well as senior finance roles at the Defence Intelligence Agency and the Office of the National Security Adviser.
The Board maintained that Abdulraheem’s blend of operational and financial expertise would be instrumental in strengthening pension administration for military retirees.
“The Board is confident that under his leadership, ongoing reforms will be deepened, stakeholder engagement strengthened, and the dignity and well-being of retired military personnel will remain at the forefront of operations,” it added.
