Tinubu Named Dead Former Senator Among Ambassadorial Nominees

President Bola Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s latest list of non-career ambassadorial nominees has sparked outrage and criticism after it was revealed that the name of a former Senator who died months ago was included.

According to Daily Nigerian, the nominee in question is Adamu Garba Talba, a former Senator who represented Yobe South during the Second Republic.

Records indicate that Mr. Talba passed away in July 2025, yet his name was part of the official list of 31 non-career nominees read on the floor of the Senate by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on December 4, 2025.

The inclusion of a deceased nominee has led to serious questions regarding the competence and due diligence exercised by the Presidency in compiling the list.

Presidency officials had also previously assured the public that all nominees were subjected to rigorous “security and background checks.”

But the appearance of a deceased former senator suggests that the process was either hurried or poorly supervised.

Government sources also told Daily Nigerian that the list had undergone a “final cleanup” because some earlier nominees had died or withdrawn.

The Senate is expected to review the list in the coming days.
