President Bola Tinubu has reduced the ₦1 billion constituency project allocation for each federal lawmaker to ₦500 million due to funding limitations in the 2025 budget.
The disclosure was made by Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, a member of the House of Representatives representing Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam Federal Constituency in Plateau State.
Gagdi, in a video circulating on social media, explained that federal lawmakers do not receive constituency project funds directly.
He said that the funds are instead used to execute projects within the lawmakers’ constituencies through relevant government agencies.
According to him, the constituency project allocation varies by state depending on the number of federal representatives.
Using Plateau as an example, Gagdi said each of the eight lawmakers from the state previously received projects worth ₦125 million before the President increased it to ₦1 billion earlier in the year. Senators, he added, were allotted ₦2 billion each for their projects.
Gagdi also stated that additional community developments often result from lobbying ministries and federal agencies for support.
He mentioned that despite the passage of the 2025 Appropriation Act, no capital project funds had been released to either the National Assembly or the Executive.
The lawmaker disclosed that the President recently informed the Speaker of the House that the 2025 budget could not be fully funded, leading to the decision to slash the constituency intervention fund from ₦1 billion to ₦500 million per lawmaker.
