Tinubu to meet Kwankwaso over defection

Tinubu 52

President Ahmed Bola Tinubu is said to have agreed in principle to meet with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso after meeting his godson, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State.

Strong pillars, according to this newspaper, indicate that Governor Yusuf might have facilitated the meetings between Tinubu and Kwankwaso to discuss his possible acceptance to defect alongside his godson.

Kwankwaso has met with President Tinubu on several occasions; however, reports suggest that they have not agreed on certain conditions reportedly put forward by the former Kano Governor.

Recently, when discussions of Governor Yusuf’s defection to the APC arose, Kwankwaso was quoted as saying that he would not defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) without knowing what he and his supporters would gain.

However, an impeccable source within the APC indicates that President Tinubu has agreed to meet with the NNPP presidential candidate of 2023 to discuss his possible acceptance to follow his godson to the APC.

Speaking to our correspondent in Kano, APC chairman Abdullahi Abbas refused to comment on the speculated meeting between President Tinubu and Kwankwaso.

He clarified, however, that should Governor Yusuf finally join the APC as governor, he would remain the leader of the party in the state according to the party’s accepted position.

According to him, “It is my personal opinion that Governor Yusuf, after joining us, is now the leader of our party, while Ganduje and possibly Kwankwaso, if they agree to defect, would be our political fathers.”
