Tom Felton's Official Harry Potter Return Finally Revealed With Rapturous Applause In Emotional Cursed Child Video

Tom Felton’s Harry Potter franchise return has now been unveiled in a new video. After playing Draco Malfoy across eight films and departing the franchise in 2011 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, it was announced earlier this year that Felton would be reprising his role in the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child stage play.

Now, the official Cursed Child Instagram account has provided a first look at Felton’s grand return as Draco in a Broadway performance of the Harry Potter play. The video shows the crowd going wild upon Felton’s entrance onto the stage, with the actor forced to wait for the applause to fade before delivering his line. Check out the video below:

The video reveals that Felton is sporting a new look as Draco this time around, which includes much longer hair akin to what his father, Lucius, had in the movies. This is fitting, of course, given that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child takes place roughly 19 years after the events of Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

Written by Jack Thorne and based on a story by Thorne, franchise author J.K. Rowling, and John Tiffany, The Cursed Child follows Albus Severus Potter, Harry Potter’s second son, as he attends Hogwarts. The play depicts Albus’ sorting in Slytherin instead of Gryffindor, and his struggle to find a place for himself given his father’s legacy.

While The Cursed Child focuses on a new generation of witches and wizards, beloved Harry Potter characters like Draco, Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Ginny, among others, also return. Felton is, so far, the only actor from the original cast to reprise his role for The Cursed Child, which has been a staple of the West End since 2016, and which made its Broadway debut in 2018.

For a time, there was talk of a potential movie adaptation of The Cursed Child, which would have opened the door for a return from original cast members like Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. Radcliffe, though, has been vocal about wanting to leave the franchise in the past, casting doubt on this ever happening.

Also working against a Cursed Child movie adaptation is the upcoming Harry Potter TV show. The series, which hails from showrunner Francesca Gardiner, will introduce an entirely new cast, with each season set to adapt one of Rowling’s seven novels. Set to premiere on HBO in early 2027, the series is already hotly anticipated.

Though there’s still more than a year to wait for the TV series, it’s clear that audiences are enjoying this return to the world of Harry Potter in the form of The Cursed Child on Broadway. With Felton back in his best-known role, the play is sure to remain a popular offering for the foreseeable future.
