Tomb Raider voice actor Camilla Luddington is preparing to bid farewell to Lara Croft as another voice actor prepares to voice one of gaming’s greatest action heroes in the series’ next two entries. Two new Tomb Raider games were revealed during The Game Awards last week after leaking beforehand: Legacy of Atlantis, a reimagining of the first Tomb Raider game, coming in 2026; and Catalyst, an all-new entry, in 2027.

The next two Tomb Raider games will feature a whole new Lara Croft, in voice as well as design: Gamespot notes that the remake and reboot’s lead will be voiced by Alix Wilton Regan. In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Camilla Luddington, who voiced Croft through previous reboot the Survivor Trilogy, expressed gratitude for the role and the fandom’s response, while wishing well to her successor.

“She Will Forever Be A Part Of Me”

Camilla Luddington took over as Lara Croft in the 2013 series reboot, simply titled Tomb Raider. She was the fifth actress to voice Croft in the video games, succeeding the likes of Shelley Blond, Judith Gibbins, Jonell Elliott, and Keeley Hawes.

Tomb Raider (2013) was Luddington’s first video game role. It would begin a three-game series, followed by Rise of the Tomb Raider in 2015 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018, reviving a long-dormant series and bringing one of the medium’s most iconic characters to a new generation of players.

“To join the list of Lara Crofts before me was an incredible honor and she will forever be a part of me,” Luddington said in her commemorative Instagram post. “The Survivor Trilogy was a decade of adventure I will never ever forget. I could not be prouder of what we created.”

She ended her post with a shout to Alix Wilton Regan, who is set to voice Croft in the next two games. “A new actress receives this incredible gift to step into the boots… if you’re ever in need of a [bow emoji], I know the exact spot to look for one at Croft Manor,” referencing an Easter egg in Tomb Raider: Anniversary.

Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis

British actor Alix Wilton Regan will take over for Luddington in the role of Lara Croft beginning in Legacy of Atlantis, playing an older, more experienced Croft in a reimagining of her first adventure.

Wilton is a prolific voice actor, having appeared in, among other games, all four Dragon Age entries (voicing the female protagonist in Inquisition), Mass Effect 3, Forza Horizon, Divinity: Original Sin and its sequel, Wuthering Waves, Lies of P: Overture, and Cyberpunk 2077, in which she played Alt Cunningham.

In a response to Camilla Luddington’s Instagram post, Wilton said, “This is incredibly kind, gorgeous, and gracious of you… No Laras left behind in this world. All Laras are always welcome. From one Lara to another, I salute you… and thank you.”

Wilton, who was also set to voice protagonist Joanna Dark in the canceled Perfect Dark reboot, is now gearing up to take on one of the most iconic roles in gaming. It’s unknown whether Luddington intends to reprise the role in future spinoffs or cameo appearances as former Tomb Raider stars have occasionally done, but for now, it looks like Lara Croft is in good hands.
