Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu on the increasing borrowings by his administration.
Atiku, in a statement on Sunday by one of his aides, Olusola Sanni, said the loans are coming with a weight too heavy for Nigerians to bear.
Naijaonpoint reports that he spoke against the backdrop of reports that President Tinubu is in discussions with the World Bank for another $1.25 billion loan facility.
However, Atiku expressed worries that the Tinubu government has become synonymous with large-scale borrowing, with no corresponding improvement in the daily lives of Nigerians.
According to him, the government’s appetite for foreign debt has become “reckless, opaque and dangerously habitual.”
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in the state of continued support to strengthen their capacity to protect lives and property.
Naijaonpoint reports that Makinde gave the assurance at the inauguration of the Oyo State Police Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit and its Oversight Committee, held at the Police Command, Eleyele, Ibadan.
Reacting to the recent abduction in Oriire Local Government Area, Makinde sympathised with the families of those who lost their lives in the incident.
He said the attack was another reminder that the government must remain proactive on security matters.
The governor said his administration had been working with security agencies to clarify what happened and prevent a recurrence.
Makinde urged community leaders and residents to remain watchful and vigilant in their environments.
The senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Abdulaziz Yari, has called on Northerners to support the 2027 re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu.
The former Governor of Zamfara State submitted that the Southwest supported Muhammadu Buhari in completing eight years as President of Nigeria, and the North should reciprocate the gesture by supporting Tinubu.
According to him, it is important to respect the zoning arrangement between the North and the South in the interest of national unity and political balance.
Yari particularly stated that the Northwest must support Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Convicted terrorist, Kabiru Umar, popularly known as Kabiru Sokoto, has approached the Court of Appeal in Abuja to challenge his 2013 conviction and life sentence over terrorism-related offences.
Fresh court documents obtained by Sunday PUNCH showed that Umar, through his lawyers, Don Akaegbu & Company, filed a motion dated May 13, 2026, seeking an extension of time to appeal the judgment delivered by Justice A.F.A. Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on December 20, 2013.
Umar maintained that he was wrongly convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
The application asked the appellate court for permission to file his notice of appeal out of time and for the notice already filed to be deemed properly filed and served.
He was convicted on a two-count charge relating to alleged facilitation of terrorist acts and failure to disclose information connected to a terrorist incident.
