The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned members of the public to disregard campaign posters depicting former President Goodluck Jonathan as a presidential aspirant for the 2027 election on the platform of some political parties in the country.
The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said Jonathan remains a bona fide and fully committed member of the party.
The statement described campaign posters bearing the photographs of Jonathan, either alone or paired with other notable Nigerians as running mates, which are being circulated widely on social media platforms as fake.
Ememobong was quick to remind members of the public that double registration is not only prohibited under the provisions of the electoral act, but also punishable.
He added that mischief makers are responsible for spreading the fake posters and urged members of the public to ignore them.
According to Ememobong, Jonathan still affirmed his membership of the PDP during their meeting with him on Friday.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday, officially announced that the party’s 2027 presidential ticket has been zoned to the south.
The announcement, which was made during the NDC National Convention in Abuja, explained that the party’s presidential ticket will go to the south for a single four-year term in 2027, and then to the North in 2031.
The party clarified that its decision is based on the principles of power-sharing and rotation between the Northern and Southern regions of Nigeria.
The NDC said its decision was taken in the supreme interest of national healing and to douse sectional tension and to guarantee that the NDC remains a party for all Nigerians.
The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2027 general election, Adewale Adebayo, has said he is “anointed by God” to provide a strong opposition to President Bola Tinubu.
Naijaonpoint reports that Adebayo made the declaration on Saturday while delivering his acceptance speech after emerging as the SDP presidential candidate at the party’s primary held at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium.
He emerged unopposed as the sole aspirant who purchased the party’s presidential nomination form.
Speaking before delegates and supporters, Adebayo said Nigerians were facing hardship, insecurity, unemployment, poverty and poor leadership.
He said many graduates remained jobless years after leaving universities and polytechnics, while families struggled with hunger and lack of access to healthcare.
Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Saturday backed the decision of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria.
Naijaonpoint reports that Kwankwaso said the decision reflected the party’s power-sharing arrangement and commitment to fairness.
He spoke at the NDC national convention in Abuja while addressing delegates, supporters and party stakeholders.
Kwankwaso said he supported the zoning of the presidential ticket to the South to allow the region complete its eight-year turn.
He said, “I support the decision to zone the presidential ticket to Southern so that the region can complete its eight years.
“This is in line with the zoning process and party agreement.”
The former Kano governor also urged Nigerians and party supporters to participate in the NDC’s mobilisation drive ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Please register now,” he appealed.
Kwankwaso’s endorsement came hours after the NDC formally adopted a resolution zoning its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria for a single four-year term.
The resolution was adopted during the party’s national convention after a motion moved by the lawmaker representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency of Anambra State, Afam Victor Ogene.
