The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially waived the screening requirements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Naijaonpoint reports that the decision clears President Tinubu to participate in the party’s upcoming presidential primary elections without appearing before a screening committee.
At its 188th meeting held on Wednesday, the NWC resolved to deem President Tinubu as duly screened in line with the APC Constitution.
The decision was taken under the powers vested in the committee by Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv), which allow it to organise primaries and grant waivers in special circumstances when it serves the best interest of the party.
In a statement signed by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, after the meeting, the NWC highlighted the overwhelming endorsements and votes of confidence President Tinubu has received from major stakeholders, including the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), the leadership and members of the National Assembly, and other organs of the party at the APC National Summit of May 22, 2025, and subsequent statutory events.
The party noted that, as the incumbent President and leader of the APC, who was already screened and cleared ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries, requiring his physical appearance before another screening committee at this time would be “redundant and unnecessary.”
The Federal Government has barred recipients of honorary degrees from adding “Dr” to their names.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa announced the development at a media briefing at Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.
He said the decision was taken at the Federal Executive Council meeting, which held on April 30.
Alausa said the policy is designed to restore public confidence in the integrity of academic titles.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC), of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), has agreed to suspend the ongoing indefinite strike it embarked upon on April 30.

JAC explained that the strike is being suspended to allow the committee to obtain the approval of the President, Bola Tinubu, for any further review of the government’s earlier offer.
The statement, signed by the JAC Chairman and National President of SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, and the General Secretary of NASU, Prince Peters Adeyemi, issued a circular to all branch chairmen on the suspension of the strike, starting from Monday, May 11.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has threatened to seal off any house in Abuja that is used as the headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by the faction led by Taminu Turaki.
Wike also warned that any bank that allows the Turaki-led PDP to open an account for the sale of nomination forms for the 2027 election will be in trouble.
According to him, any attempt by the Turaki faction to sell form to any aspirant for the 2027 polls will amount to duping Nigerians.

There was a confrontation between the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and the Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, during the plenary on Wednesday over what is described as unruly behaviour from the former Governor of Edo State.
Naijaonpoint reports that during the confrontation between the two lawmakers, Akpabio threatened to remove Oshiomhole from the Senate if he failed to comply with the upper chamber’s rules.
Prior to the caution from Akpabio, Oshiomhole had repeatedly disrupted plenary, as he persistently shouted “Point of Order” while Akpabio was reading the Votes and Proceedings of the previous sitting.
On Wednesday, trouble began at the commencement of plenary when Oshiomhole repeatedly interjected, drawing the attention of the presiding officer to amended Senate rules.
In response, Akpabio called on Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to guide his colleague on the Senate’s Standing Rules.
Akpabio then cautioned the former Edo State governor, stating, “If you are a soldier, you behave like a soldier. If you are a police officer, you behave like a police officer. So if you are a senator, you must go by the rules.”
