President Bola Tinubu on Monday held a closed-door security meeting with the nation’s security chiefs and heads of intelligence agencies.
The meeting, which was held at the State House in Abuja, had in attendance the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; the Chief of Army, Lt. Gen Waidi Shaibu; the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas; the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Anele; the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi; the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed, and the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu.
Also present was the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, alongside other top security officials at the State House.
The meeting comes in the wake of renewed and worrying attacks by insurgents in various parts of the country.
The meeting also comes in the wake of the fallout from a Saturday Nigerian Air Force airstrike in Borno’s Jilli Market along the Yobe border, which reportedly recorded casualties, mostly civilians, while targeting Boko Haram.
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has slammed Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, over criticisms of his record in office and contributions to the North-East during his tenure as vice president.
Naijaonpoint reports that Shettima had earlier challenged Atiku at a campaign rally in Potiskum, Yobe State, accusing him of failing to deliver meaningful projects or empowerment to his region while in office.
In response, Atiku, during an interview on GTA Hausa, said he would not respond to Shettima because the vice presidential candidate lacks manners.
He said, “I will not respond to Kashim Shettima because he doesn’t have manners.
“First I’m not his mate, secondly I have more experience in governance than him and thirdly it is not our culture in northern Nigeria to disrespect elder, or accused an elder unnecessarily.”
“It is not in our blood in North, therefore I will not respond to him.”
The Nigerian Army on Monday, confirmed the death of a commanding officer during a terrorist attack on their location in Monguno, Borno State.
The Army, in a statement made available to Naijaonpoint by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East)
Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, added that six soldiers also lost their lives during the attack.
He, however, added that the troops successfully repelled the terrorists following a heavy gunfire exchange at the location, with the criminals fleeing the site.
The Army statement explained that the commanding officer encountered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which severely affected his vehicle, leading to his death alongside 6 other gallant personnel.
Uba, who confirmed the sorrow of the army in losing the commander and other personnel, vowed that their service to the nation is fully appreciated.
Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has been announced as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Ogun State.
Naijaonpoint reports that Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun made the announcement during a stakeholders meeting on Monday.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the 10th Senate, was adopted during a strategic caucus meeting held at the party’s secretariat on Abiola Way, Abeokuta.
The meeting, convened by the state chairman, Yemi Sanusi, was attended by Governor Dapo Abiodun, former governor Olusegun Osoba, as well as Gbenga Daniel, Ibikunle Amosun, Kola Bajomo, Salisu Shuaib, Gbenga Kaka, Gbenga Obadara, and other caucus members.
The adoption followed Governor Abiodun’s appeal to other aspirants from Ogun West, including Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Abiodun Akinlade, to step down in support of Adeola.
A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has announced the suspension of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, from the party.
Naijaonpoint reports that the suspension was announced on Monday by the faction’s chairman in the state, Raji Sulaiman Zumo.
Zumo said the decision followed consultations among the party’s leadership in the state.
According to him, the affected individuals were suspended over alleged roles in creating divisions within the party.
