A prison inmate who stabbed Canadian rapper Tory Lanez 14 times has claimed he acted in self-defense.
Santino Casio, currently incarcerated at California Correctional Institution, says a troubling rumor sparked a violent confrontation with Lanez behind bars.
Speaking during a phone call, Casio claimed he heard whispers that the Canadian rapper wanted him harmed. The tension reportedly escalated when Casio saw Lanez and noticed what he believed was a bulge in his pocket that resembled a weapon.
Acting on instinct and fear, Casio admitted he launched an attack on Lanez but insisted he was not trying to kill the Alone at Prom artist. He also revealed he suffered a stab wound to his leg during the altercation.
Casio also noted that prior to the incident, the two had a good rapport, sharing proximity as neighbors in the prison’s housing unit.
Lanz has since been transferred to a different prison, and his legal team is calling for the California governor to pardon him and free him from prison.
