Disney Pixar’s Toy Story is returning with their new animated installment to the franchise and has just released a teaser trailer ahead of its release on June 19, 2026.
In the trailer, Buzz and Woody are reunited as fan-favorite characters, including Forky look terrified upon seeing a delivery box, and Bonnie’s new tablet, Lilypad (voiced by Greta Lee), is the talk of the town. In Disney’s press release, they announced:
“The toys are back in Disney and Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 5,’ and this time it’s Toy meets Tech. Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang’s jobs are challenged when they’re introduced to what kids are obsessed with today….electronics! Directed by Andrew Stanton, co-directed by Kenna Harris, and produced by Lindsey Collins.”
Voice actors Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will be reprising their roles as Woody and Buzz alongside Joan Cusack as Jessie, Tony Hale as Forky, and Blake Clark as Slinky Dog. Talk show host Conan O’Brien will also be joining the cast as a new character called Smarty Pants.
Director Stanton co-wrote the previous four Toy Story movies and was responsible for other Disney films, including Wall-E, Finding Dory, and Finding Nemo.
Toy Story (1995) was groundbreaking and awe-inspiring, and paved the way for all animated movies. It was the first computer-animated feature film and the first feature film produced by Pixar Animation Studios, which led Disney to buy Pixar in 2006 following Toy Story 2‘s success in 1999.
Each of the Toy Story films in the franchise has a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating and has proven to be globally successful at the box office, and has collectively grossed over $3.3 billion. Toy Story 3 and 4 both won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, and the first movie won a Special Achievement Academy Award for its use of computer-animated technology.
Toy Story 5 marks Pixar’s 31st feature film, with the most recent being Elio, which unfortunately didn’t perform as well as its predecessors. Another successful franchise for Pixar was Inside Out, with the sequel Inside Out 2, grossing over $1.5 billion at the box office, marking it as the highest-grossing film of 2024.
Toy Story 5 will be released in theaters on June 19, 2026.
