A Nigerian resident in the United Kingdom, Kayode Ogunbodede, popularly called Kay, has reportedly died unexpectedly while asleep in Swansea, Wales.
The incident, which was said to have occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, has thrown members of the Nigerian community in the UK into mourning.
Ogunbodede was survived by his wife, who is currently studying, and their two daughters aged six years and six months.
Information about his death became public through an online fundraising campaign initiated by Olatunde Owoeye-Phoster to support the bereaved family.
In the appeal, the organiser described the deceased as a caring and humble individual who was actively involved in community and church activities.
“Kay’s sudden passing has left family members, friends and loved ones devastated. He was known for his kindness, calm nature and readiness to support others whenever the need arose,” the statement noted.
The appeal further stated that Ogunbodede was a member of Elim City Church, Swansea, and also worshipped at the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
According to the organiser, the fundraising effort was launched to help the family cope with burial arrangements, childcare responsibilities and other pressing financial needs following the tragic development.
“His wife is presently not employed because she is still a student, and she now has the responsibility of caring for two little children alone. This has created a very difficult situation for the family,” the statement added.
As of Wednesday, donations amounting to £480 had been received out of the £18,000 target set for the campaign.
The incident is among several recent cases involving Nigerians in the UK whose families and associates have resorted to public fundraising after losing loved ones unexpectedly.
Earlier reports had highlighted similar appeals following the deaths of other Nigerians abroad, including a man identified as Herbert, who reportedly died in his sleep, and Ademola Oke, who was said to have been found lifeless at his workplace in the UK.
