TROOPS under Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised 10 Boko Haram insurgents during a clearance operation conducted between Rann and Gamboru Ngala, near the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
The offensive, part of intensified military efforts in the Southern Lake Chad region, also led to the recovery of a cache of weapons, including anti-aircraft ammunition and ordnance believed to have been seized in a previous attack on Cameroonian forces.
Speaking with newsmen in Maiduguri, Theatre Commander of the North-East Joint Task Force, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, confirmed that troops engaged the terrorists in the border village of Manawaji, where the encounter took place.
“Our troops made contact with Boko Haram elements at Manawaji, a community between Rann and Gamboru Ngala, and successfully neutralised ten terrorists,” he said.
“We recovered several weapons, including anti-aircraft rounds likely stolen during an earlier assault on Cameroon’s Defence Force.”
Ngala lies about 154 kilometres from Maiduguri, while Rann, the administrative centre of Kala-Balge Local Government Area, is approximately 183 kilometres away — both along Lake Chad’s fringes.
While speaking, the major General Abubakar commended the troops for their continued dedication to restoring peace in the region.
He noted that the deployment of new combat equipment has significantly boosted morale and reiterated the military’s resolve to eliminate all terrorist threats across the North-East.
