Troops Kill 109 Terrorists, Rescue 43 Hostages In One Week – Defence HQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has revealed that troops of the Nigerian Army neutralized 109 terrorists, apprehended 81 suspects, and rescued 43 hostages across various regions within the last week.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Edward Buba, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja, emphasizing the military’s intensified operations against terrorism, banditry, and oil theft.

Buba detailed significant achievements under key military operations. Troops of Operation Hadin Kai were credited with killing 64 terrorists, arresting 28 suspects, and rescuing 14 hostages.

Similarly, under Operation Fansan Yamma, 21 terrorists were killed, 24 suspects were detained, and five hostages were freed.

The statement reads, “On January 3, 2025, the air component of Operation Fansan Yamma conducted an air interdiction at Alawa Forest in Shiroro LGA of Niger state. Battle Damage Assessment revealed that several terrorists were eliminated, and their structures, along with logistics, were destroyed.”

Naijaonpoint understands that the operations led to the recovery of a cache of weapons, including nine AK-47 rifles, five fabricated rifles, four dane guns, and locally made pistols.

Troops also seized 124 rounds of ammunition, seven magazines, five live cartridges, and three radios.

Additional items recovered include six motorcycles, four vehicles, four mobile phones, and various logistics equipment.

Crackdown On Oil Theft In Niger Delta

In the Niger Delta region, troops destroyed illegal refining sites and uncovered equipment used in crude oil theft. Buba noted that 10 crude oil cooking ovens, 10 dugout pits, and 10 illegal refining sites were dismantled.

Recovered items included:

631,709 litres of stolen crude oil

3,140 litres of illegally refined AGO

2,250 litres of PMS

12 speedboats, 20 drums, and three pumping machines

Buba reiterated the military’s commitment to ensuring security across the nation, adding, “Troops are sustaining the winning ways of ongoing operational engagements. Citizens will continue to witness the incremental effectiveness and efficiency of the armed forces.”
