The Defence Headquarters on Sunday announced that troops of Operation Fasin Yamma have neutralised a notorious terrorist kingpin, Mai Dada, in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Naijaonpoint reports that Mai Dada, described as a wanted and deadly terrorist commander, had been terrorising several communities across the North-West region before meeting his end during a counteroffensive operation.
This was disclosed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, during updates on nationwide military operations from June 25 to 26, 2025.
In a related development, troops of Sector 3 in Monguno, Borno State, intercepted a vehicle conveying logistics suspected to be meant for terrorists.
Items recovered from the intercepted vehicle included:
– 65 litres of petrol (PMS)
– Four bags of rice
– Five bags of groundnuts
– Four bags of NPK fertilizer
– Several tubers of yam
– Seven motorcycle headlights
– Ten solar lights
– 2,000 empty cement bags
– Four solar panels
– One mobile phone
A suspect was arrested during the operation.
Troops of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion, supported by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, conducted a fighting patrol in Ngoshe, Gwoza LGA, and recovered significant ammunition from a known ISWAP/JAS withdrawal route.
Items recovered include 408 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, 1,200 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and two 40mm RPG bombs.
In Bama LGA, troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade also neutralised three terrorists, recovered a Dane gun, and destroyed several terrorist life-support structures.
In Kaduna State, troops of the 2 Battalion on escort duty in Birnin Gwari engaged fleeing armed men on a motorcycle, recovering an AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
In Edo State, a suspect was arrested in Etsako Central LGA with a pump-action rifle and cutlasses.
In the South-South, troops of 5 Battalion in Otueke, Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa State, arrested two suspects in possession of two locally fabricated pistols and one round of 9mm ammunition.
Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, deployed along the Pekia–Wukari road in Ukum LGA of Benue State, rescued five kidnapped passengers following a gun battle with fleeing kidnappers. A vehicle used by the criminals was also recovered.
In Plateau State, troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Safe Haven conducted offensive patrols in Tangur, Kakas, Horop, Tulus, Jinak, and Hokk villages in Bokkos LGA. Using UAV/drone surveillance, they recovered a Dane gun abandoned by fleeing suspects.
Major General Kangye affirmed the Armed Forces’ continued commitment to working with other security agencies to dismantle criminal networks and maintain peace nationwide.
He said, “In well-planned and executed operations across various theatres, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, in conjunction with other security agencies, recorded significant successes in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other forms of criminal activity across the country, with the recovery of arms, ammunition, and arrest of several suspects between June 25 and 26, 2025.”
