Trump open to Iran sanctions relief talks, warns Tehran's arms suppliers of 50% tariffs

Donald Trump has threatened to impose sweeping 50% tariffs on any country supplying weapons to Iran while simultaneously signalling openness to sanctions relief talks with Tehran following a “fragile” ceasefire agreement.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump warned that any country supplying military weapons to Iran would face immediate economic consequences. “A Country supplying Military Weapons to Iran will be immediately tariffed, on any and all goods sold to the United States of America, 50%, effective immediately. There will be no exclusions or exemptions!” he wrote.

The warning came hours after the United States, Iran and Israel agreed to a two-week ceasefire aimed at de-escalating a rapidly intensifying conflict. Tehran has said it will begin negotiations with Washington in Islamabad starting Friday.

Despite the hard line trade threat, Trump signalled a willingness to ease tensions through diplomacy, saying Washington is prepared to engage Iran on sanctions and tariffs. He claimed that progress had already been made on a broader framework. “We are, and will be, talking Tariff and Sanctions relief with Iran. Many of the 15 points have already been agreed to,” he said.

Trump also outlined strict nuclear conditions, insisting there would be “no enrichment” of uranium in Iran.

Trump said Wednesday there will be no more enrichment of uranium by Iran, and that the two countries will work together to “dig up and remove” nuclear material deeply buried after last year’s US airstrike.

“The United States will work closely with Iran, which we have determined has gone through what will be a very productive Regime Change!” Trump posted on Truth Social, hours after he announced a temporary ceasefire in the war with the Islamic republic.

“There will be no enrichment of Uranium, and the United States will, working with Iran, dig up and remove all of the deeply buried (B-2 Bombers) Nuclear ‘Dust,’” he added.

The diplomatic overture follows a sharp escalation in rhetoric earlier in the day, when Trump warned that “a whole civilisation will die tonight” if Iran failed to agree to terms including reopening the critical Strait of Hormuz.

While Washington has paused strikes, Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Israel supports the temporary halt but clarified that it does not apply to its ongoing war with Hezbollah in Lebanon, where over 1,500 people have been killed.

On the Iranian side, scepticism remains deep. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a stark warning, saying it has “no trust” in US promises despite the ceasefire.

“The Iranian nation’s dedicated guards are listening to the orders of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, His Holiness Mojtaba Khamenei, and their finger is on the trigger,” the Guards said in a statement on Telegram.

The statement also urged Gulf nations to end cooperation with the United States, accusing Washington of longstanding deceit. “The enemy has always been deceitful, and we have no trust in its promises, and we will respond to every aggression at a greater level,” it added.
