“Trump’ll humiliate you” – Ex-presidential aide advises Tinubu against travelling to US

Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former presidential aide has advised President Bola Tinubu against travelling to the United States of America to meet with Donald Trump.

Baba-Ahmed, a former spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum in a post on X said that, should any plan by Tinubu to travel to the US to meet with either Trump or his vice, James David Vance would be demeaning to Nigeria.

Recall that there had been reports that Tinubu was making plans to travel to the US to meet with Trump over the designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) and his threat of military invasion over incessant killing of Christians in the northern region of the nation.

While the report has been debunked by the presidency, Bayo Onanuga, the presidential aide on information and strategy said that Tinubu would only be travelling to South Africa to attend the G20 Summit scheduled to take place between November 22 and 22, 2025.

However, reacting to the previous report, Baba-Ahmed said, “I hope reports that President Tinubu will travel to the US to meet with VP Vance are not true. This will demean Nigeria even further.

“He should not travel to meet with Trump either. Trump will humiliate him,” he said.

The former presidential aide noted that Nigeria’s problem, as raised by the US and its numerous leaders lies within the confines of Africa’s most populous nation.

He further urged President Tinubu to shelve any travel plans and focus on tackling the growing insecurity in Nigeria.

“The problem is here. We are insecure and dying. He should fix that. US can wait,” Baba-Ahmed added.
