Nigerian cleric, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, has reassured displaced and persecuted Christian communities that “help is on the way,” following a visit by a United States Congressional delegation to Benue State.
Naijaonpoint reports that Dachomo, a Plateau State-born cleric known for documenting attacks and mass burials in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, said the heightened global attention marked a critical turning point in efforts to address ongoing violence.
Reacting to comments made by U.S. Congressman Riley M. Moore of West Virginia after his trip to Nigeria, Dachomo said he had endured years of criticism for speaking against attacks on Christian communities.
“Many names have been spoken against me for standing on the side of truth,” he said.
“Even when some try to suppress it, truth cannot be hidden forever. My Facebook account may have been taken down for raising concerns, but the light of truth will always prevail. Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Help is on the way.”
Naijaonpoint reports that Moore had, in a post on 𝕏 late Thursday, shared details of the delegation’s findings after meeting Catholic Bishops Wilfred Anagbe and Stephen Dugu, as well as the Tor Tiv.
The team also interacted with internally displaced persons who narrated repeated attacks on their communities.
Moore said the lawmakers heard heartbreaking stories, including that of a woman who recounted witnessing the killing of five of her children.
He described the violence as part of a horrific genocidal campaign attributed to extremist elements within Fulani communities.
“I’ve never seen anything like it. It will stay with me the rest of my life,” he wrote.
Moore further disclosed that he is preparing a report for the President of the United States, Donald Trump, outlining recommendations for coordinated action with the Nigerian government to protect vulnerable populations and curb ongoing terrorist threats.
Dachomo, who has repeatedly raised alarm over attacks on Christian communities in the Middle Belt, said Moore’s statements and his appearance on U.S. television reflected expanding international recognition of the crisis.
