What could be best described as tr@gedy struck in the industrial city of Nnewi, Anambra State, as two school children were electrocuted to de@th while taking refuge from a heavy downpour.
The heartbreaking incident, which occurred over the weekend at the St. Peter’s Claver Junction, Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area, threw the entire community and the state at large into mourning.
According to eyewitnesses and CCTV footage from the scene, the children, whose identities are yet to be officially disclosed, were among several pupils who sought shelter in a roadside shop during the heavy rainfall on that fateful day.
Tragedy, however, struck when the wet bodies of two of the schoolchildren came in contact with a nearly live metal in the place, and they were instantly electrocuted, while others narrowly escaped, including some bystanders who were also marveled at how everything happened just in twinkle of an eye.
According to Reporter Izunna Okafor, the fatal incident occurred just few days after a similar tragedy in the same Nnewi area, where a woman was swept away by floodwaters in Uruagu community, after which her de@d body was found where it was dumped.
Effort by the reporter to get the reactions of the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, on the incident proved abortive, as she was yet to respond to her call at the time of this publication.
