Two-storey building under construction collapses in Lagos

Building Collapse 1

A tragic incident was narrowly averted on Monday when a two-storey building under construction collapsed at Number 3 Craig Street, off Apata Road, Shomolu, in Lagos State.

According to eyewitnesses, the building came crashing down around 1 p.m.

Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries, as several construction workers and church worshippers present at the site managed to escape unhurt.

Reports revealed that pillars from the collapsed structure fell onto a nearby church — Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Liberty Parish — partially damaging the building.

Thankfully, worshippers inside the church at the time also escaped without harm.

Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the collapse, stating that the incident occurred during the decking process of the building.

“Preliminary investigations conducted revealed that there was no victim trapped under the collapsed building,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

“Meanwhile, the construction yard has been cordoned off immediately,” the LASEMA boss added.
