Two members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have announced their resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing persistent internal wrangling and leadership issues within the party.
The lawmakers, Shamsudeen Hassan Basko, representing Talata-Mafara North Constituency, and Nura Dahiru, representing Birnin-Magaji Constituency, conveyed their decisions in separate letters dated December 3.
Naijaonpoint reports that their resignation letters were formally read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, Bilyaminu Moriki.
In his letter, Basko attributed his decision to ongoing internal crises, poor leadership, and the marginalisation of members at both state and local levels.
According to him, “The persistent crises, internal divisions, poor leadership, and the sidelining of members prompted my decision to leave the APC.”
He added that staying in the party no longer aligned with his political convictions or the best interests of his constituents.
On his part, Dahiru said his exit was necessary to pursue ideals and causes that better reflect the aspirations of those he represents.
“My departure from the APC will allow me to pursue causes that better represent the aspirations of the people I serve,” he stated.
Following his resignation, Dahiru formally declared his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State.
