Samantha Gibson, the ex-wife of singer Tyrese Gibson, is asking a judge to toss his motion to lower his child support payments to her as the star owes her more than $100,000 in back pay,
In 2023, Tyrese was ordered to pay her $10,690 per month in child support for their 5-year-old daughter, Soraya, but he has not been keeping up with the monthly payments.
At the time, Tyrese claimed that the $10k-a-month order was “unfair.”
Samantha claims that because Tyrese appealed the child support order with the Georgia Supreme Court, the lower court has no authority to make any decision at this time and that since September 2022, “he has only paid the full monthly amount three times.”
Last September, Fulton County Superior Court held the singer in contempt for failing to pay more than $73,000 in child support.
“The Court HEREBY ORDERS that the Respondent shall be taken into custody and incarcerated until such time as he purges himself of contempt by making a payment in the purge amount or until further order of this Court,” court records read.
Samantha was unsympathetic.
“Mr. Gibson has chosen not to abide by the court’s child support order and he was held in willful contempt now for the third time,” Samantha’s attorney said in a statement at the time. “He only paid full child support three times in 20 months.”
