Nollywood actress Uche Jombo has finally received her colleague and best friend Chioma Akpotha’s AMVCA Best Actress trophy.
Last month, Chioma won the Best Actress award at the 10th edition of the AMVCA, and Uche, who was at the event, received backlash for not going on stage to collect the award on behalf of Chioma, who is in the US.
On her Instagram page, Uche shared a video of the moment she delivered the trophy to Chioma. She revealed that she flew first class to the US to deliver the award.
“This award would have been so amazing if Uche had gone on stage and collected it for Chioma Chukwuma.
Hello, I flew it, first class”.
In the clip, Chioma gave a touching speech as she appreciated AMVCA organisers, her fans, God, and her late mother. She noted how it has been a long journey of highs and lows, but through it all, she remained dedicated to her craft, and now, she is reaping the reward.
“Thank you, Jesus, thank you, my mama in heaven, thank you, AMVCA, thank you, my fans. Mama, I finally made it.
It’s been a long journey, a journey of high and lows but through it all, I still stayed true to my craft and that’s why today, I am able to hold this award to the glory of God and to the shame of the devil”.
Kemi Filani reported on May 11th that Chioma Akpotha had won the Best Lead Actress at the 2025 AMVCA. The movie star beat Gbubemi Ejeye, Uzoamaka Onuoha, Uche Montana, Hilda Dokubo, Uzoamaka Aniunoh, and Bimbo Ademoye to win the award.
Chioma, who wasn’t at the event, shared a video on her Instagram page of her crying as she expressed gratitude to God for the win. The talented actress said words fail her.
To celebrate her AMVCA win, her family and friends threw her a surprise party. Akpotha shared a video from the event, expressing how overwhelmed she was with the grand gesture. The talented actress added that being loved, accepted, seen, and celebrated is great medicine for the heart.
Femi Adebayo, while opening up on why he chose Chioma as the lead actress for the movie, claimed it was a divine message as he noted how Chioma initially declined when he reached out to her, but he insisted.
Chioma, on her part, said the universe worked it out for them as she noted she wasn’t available for the role when he first reached out to her. The movie star said she later got hooked on the script and was connected to it, and God made it possible for her to be available for filming.
