Ghana coach Otto Addo has warned that his team is targeting a victory against the Super Eagles of Nigeria when both teams lock horns in their opening game of the 2025 Unity Cup on Wednesday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria and Ghana have one of the biggest rivalries on the African continent. The two countries are known for competing with each other in terms of culture, fashion, entertainment, food, football, and many other aspects.

This time, they renew rivalries on the football stage, as they lock horns in the 2025 Unity Cup.

The last time they met was in a friendly game. coach Addo was in charge of Ghana, while Finidi George was in charge of the Super Eagles. Nigeria edged it 2-1, a game which they dominated.

This will be Addo’s second meeting with Nigeria as Ghana coach. And this time, he admits that he is desperatge to get all three points.

“I’m really excited. Actually, the last time we lost one. So we really, really want to, want to beat them (Nigeria), Addo said, per GFA.

“I know about the rivalry. It’s not only in England, but I think England has a very, very huge community of Nigerians and Ghanaians, so, but it’s everywhere. And, yeah, it’s very important.

“We had recent good results, but in general, even if you have bad results, these are the games where you can get the fans back on track. And so, I know the importance of these games. And like I said before, we are trying to do everything to win the competition.”

Both teams are not at their full strength, as some of their best legs were not invited for the Unity Cup. But they still have enough quality to produce a good show.
