Gunmen

The Bursar of the National Open University of Nigeria, Nasiru Gusau Marafa, has been killed in a gun attack in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

Marafa was reportedly shot by unidentified gunmen while he was on his way back from Gusau on Sunday, throwing the university community into mourning.

The development was announced by the institution’s Registrar and Secretary to Council, Oladipo Ajayi, in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to the university, the deceased was a dedicated administrator who served the institution in different capacities before rising to the position of Bursar in September 2022.

The management described his death as a major loss to the university, noting that he discharged his responsibilities with commitment and contributed to its growth during his years of service.

The statement said the university community shared the grief of Marafa’s family, friends, colleagues and associates, while extending condolences to them.

NOUN added that arrangements for his burial would be communicated after the family had finalised the necessary details.

Meanwhile, attempts to obtain comments from the Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Yazid, were unsuccessful, as his telephone line could not be reached when this report was filed.
