A member of the United States House of Representatives, Riley Moore, says he is preparing a formal report for President Donald Trump, outlining a strategic framework for the United States to work with the Nigerian government to end what he described as the ongoing slaughter of Christians in the country.
Moore made this known in a post on đť•Ź (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, following his recent visit to Nigeria as part of a congressional delegation.
The U.S. lawmaker, who is a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, said he visited Benue State during the trip and witnessed firsthand the suffering of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who, he claimed, were victims of repeated attacks by Fulani militants.
“We met with Bishops Anagbe and Dugu, and Tor Tiv. We met with suffering IDPs who are all Christians. They are forced to live in camps that are regularly attacked by Fulani Islamic radicals,” Moore wrote.
He recounted a particularly harrowing testimony, stating, “We heard heartbreaking stories from survivors of this horrific genocidal campaign committed by the Fulani, including a woman who was forced to watch as five of her children were killed. I’ve never seen anything like it. It will stay with me the rest of my life.”
Moore added that his upcoming report would also address the persistent terrorist threat in the North-East, calling for coordinated action between the US and Nigeria to halt the violence.
“I am working on a report to @POTUS that will outline a path forward to work with the Nigerian government in a coordinated and cooperative manner to end the slaughter of innocent Christians in the Middle Belt and stop the ongoing terrorist threat in the Northeast,” he stated.
