Venezuelan leader Delcy Rodriguez to visit Sathya Sai Baba’s ashram in Andhra Pradesh

Venezuelan leader Delcy Rodríguez will visit the ashram of late spiritual leader Sathya Sai Baba during her ongoing visit to India.

After
meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rodríguez will visit Prasanthi Nilayam, Sathya Sai Baba’s ashram in Andhra Pradesh, according to CNN-News18.

For many years,
Rodríguez and ousted Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro have been devotees of Sathya Sai. Rodríguez previously visited Sathya Sai’s ashram in 2024 and 2023 and has invoked him over the years in public remarks.

“Many times, when I was in danger, I felt Baba with me, my family, and also with my country. He is always with us, teaching us … and showing a path for peace and love,” Rodríguez said in an interview in 2023.

Just weeks before the
US military whisked him away from the Venezuelan capital of Caracas along with his wife, Cilia Flores, Maduro had marked the centenary of Sathya Sai in a social media post and expressed his hope that “the wisdom of this great teacher will continue to illuminate us in the mission of building a homeland of love, peace and high spirituality”.

Maduro further hailed Sathya Sai as “a being of light” and a “beacon of unconditional love, selfless service, and truth”.

It has also been reported previously that Maduro displayed a large, framed photograph of Sathya Sai in his office at the Miraflores presidential palace in Caracas, alongside portraits of Latin American icon Simón Bolívar and his mentor Hugo Chávez.

Sathya Sai’s movement arrived in Venezuela in the 1970s, and estimates say it has around 200,000 followers in the country currently. While the country is deeply Catholic, people often mix teachings and messages from other faiths and cultures into their personal, spiritual, and cultural beliefs.
