Super Eagles of Nigeria forward, Victor Osimhen has achieved a remarkable milestone by matching the legendary Segun Odegbami on the list of Nigeria’s all-time top scorers.
Victor Osimhen reached this milestone during a tense match where the Super Eagles faced off against the Benin Republic in a qualifier for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which ended in a 1-1 draw on Thursday night, November 14.
Entering the match, Osimhen held third place among Nigeria’s top scorers with a total of 22 goals. However, the 26-year-old striker, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Italian club Napoli, showcased his goal-scoring prowess when he levelled the game with a well-timed header in the 81st minute.
This crucial equalizer not only salvaged a point for the Super Eagles but also brought Osimhen’s tally to 23 goals, levelling him with Odegbami, a retired Nigerian football icon.
With this achievement, Osimhen now finds himself trailing only behind Rashidi Yekini, who holds the record as Nigeria’s all-time leading scorer with an impressive 37 goals.
