A member of the House of Representatives from Zamfara State was on Tuesday assaulted by an enraged crowd in Dansadau town.
Residents reportedly beat and dragged the lawmaker on the ground, citing deep frustration over his “poor performance” since taking office.
In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, the lawmaker was seen being slapped and manhandled by a mob. Some security operatives were captured struggling to shield him as he was pulled in different directions.
The crowd could be heard chanting “bamayi” – a Hausa term signifying rejection or lack of support – as they expressed their anger toward the representative.
Constituents in the area claimed the attack was triggered by long-standing grievances, alleging that the lawmaker had abandoned the community following his election victory.
They alleged that repeated appeals for development, empowerment programmes and constituency presence were ignored.
Security personnel eventually managed to overpower the attackers, forcing the visibly shaken lawmaker into a waiting vehicle before escorting him away from the scene.
As of the time of this report, the specific identity of the lawmaker has not been officially confirmed, and neither the Nigeria Police Force nor the House of Representatives has issued a formal statement regarding the incident.
