The Yellow Submarine headed to the Allianz Arena to face Bundesliga superpower Bayern Munich on the back of winning 1-0 in the first leg last week.

Unai Emery got his early tactics spot on as he pushed for a shock result across the two legs with the game evenly tied at 0-0 at the break.

Bayern talisman Robert Lewandowski eventually hauled the hosts back into the contest with a fine snapshot finish but the final sting in the tail belonged to Emery’s battlers on the night.

A sweeping counter attack caught out the Bayern back line and Samuel Chukwueze popped up at the back post to smash home the clincher for Villarreal.

The Yellow Submarine now head back to Spain to await outcome of tomorrow’s clash between Liverpool and Benfica to discover their last four opponent.

Joel Matip Puts Liverpool Ahead With An Odd Goal Against Southampton

Liverpool have got as far as they can in every cup competition this season and they’re on the verge of taking the Premier League to the final day too.

After going a goal behind after 13 minutes, Liverpool have responded with goals from Takumi Minamino and Joel Matip.

Jurgen Klopp elected to go for a heavily rotated side for their fixture with Southampton, making nine changes to the team that faced Chelsea in Saturday’s FA Cup final. He may well have been fearing the worst when Nathan Redmond gave Southampton the lead early.

Liverpool responded well though, with Minamino finishing off a well-worked move starting at the feet of Joe Gomez and converted by the Japanese after a lovely touch from Diogo Jota. Gomez would then limp off on the stroke of half-time in another piece of worrying injury news.

Away from thoughts about the Champions League final however, Klopp and his travelling army of Reds will at least be satisfied with the match itself. Liverpool continued to dominate the ball and went about their work in a relaxed fashion, eventually getting the goal in bizarre circumstances

It appears that Kyle Walker-Peters attempted clearing header comes off the head of Matip from close range, looping into the far corner. A win will take Liverpool within a point of Manchester City, meaning Pep Guardiola’s side will have to win their final match against Aston Villa to guarantee the title.

Nathan Redmond’s Superb Curler Ends Liverpool’s Championship Chances

Redmond 2

Liverpool fans have been lamenting the fact that their team has an almost impossible job on the final day of the season, hoping that Manchester City slip up against Aston Villa. Yet if they fail to do their homework against Southampton, it would all be futile anyway.

Should Liverpool pick up a point, it would be all but over too, as an eight goal swing to occur by virtue of a victory and a City defeat anyway. In reality, only a win will do for Jurgen Klopp.

The German manager has made nine changes to the side that beat Chelsea in the F.A Cup final and has gone for fresh legs to try and combat Southampton’s intense style.

If they are to get the win however, they will have to do it the hard way. After just 13 minutes, Nathan Redmond cut in on his right and let loose a curling effort into the top corner and beyond Alisson. Even if it did take a slight deflection off James Milner’s leg.

Liverpool now have to mount a comeback in the knowledge that defeat will seal the fate of the title. Something which will suit Southampton’s counter-attack well.
