Marvel and Disney have been on a roll as far as movies, character development and storytelling goes. The success of Spider-Man: No Way Home is another testament to the fact that the formula is working. Recently, Hawkeye, the latest Marvel series to stream on Disney+, wrapped up its first season and not only paved the way for the future but introduced or reintroduced the world and the MCU to a notorious villain… Kingpin.

Fans have been hoping and waiting for the return of the criminal mastermind since we last saw him on Netflix’s Daredevil. As the series continued to go deeper and deeper into the story, many were suspecting that he would make his presence known one way or another before the show came to an end and he did just that. Pulling the strings in the criminal underworld from the shadows, the giant vicious figure showed his true strength as he tossed Kate Bishop around like a toy doll. Which brings up a great question. “How strong is the Kingpin?”

The amazing actor Vincent D’Onofrio who plays Wilson Fisk/Kingpin recently discussed the strength of his character and how many thought he was stronger in Hawkeye than Daredevil. D’Onofrio portrayed Fisk in all three seasons of Netflix’s Daredevil, serving as the main antagonist of seasons 1 and 3. After Netflix canceled the series in 2018, it was uncertain if D’Onofrio would ever be back as Kingpin. It was this past December that the actor finally reprised the role for the final two episodes of Disney+’s Hawkeye, officially cementing the Kingpin as MCU canon.

“You know I learned recently, a couple of the fans, they were very excited about it, they were commenting about the strength that I have,” D’Onofrio told ComicBook.com. “Because I’m throwing Kate around and stuff. But, I totally forgot. I just saw a clip on Twitter of me and Charlie [Cox] fighting in [Stephen] DeKnight’s first season [of Daredevil]. Obviously, he’s an incredible director. He helped develop the character of Wilson Fisk.”

The actor continued, “There’s a scene that we shot on an alley, in a street in Brooklyn, where I’m literally throwing Daredevil through the air. Like, I’m picking him up and swinging him 15 feet into a garbage can. I do it a few times in that fight. It’s no different, it’s really not. So, I keep saying that it’s the same Fisk that was in Daredevil. It’s the same canon, but people get confused about things. I understand.”

D’Onofrio refers to the huge fight scene at the end of Daredevil‘s season 1 finale. The scene is brutal and Kingpin shows just how strong he is by tossing a much bigger person around multiple times. D’Onofrio says that this Kingpin has been through a lot and lost a lot since then. Let’s not forget that Thanos took out half the world, which means Kingpin lost a lot if he was not snapped himself. We know he is trying to regain power as he stated in Hawkeye, but if you rewatch Daredevil, you can see that he is still just as strong. If anything the version we see in Hawkeye shows another side of him, someone who did lose more than he thought he would. Which spells trouble for anyone standing in his way.

The second season of Bridgerton follows Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), the eldest Bridgerton sibling and Viscount, as he sets out to find a suitable wife. Driven by his duty to uphold the family name, Anthony’s search for a debutante who meets his impossible standards seems ill-fated until Kate (Simone Ashley) and her younger sister Edwina (Charithra Chandran) Sharma arrive from India.

When Anthony begins to court Edwina, Kate discovers the true nature of his intentions — a true love match is not high on his priority list — and decides to do everything in her power to stop the union. But in doing so, Kate and Anthony’s verbal sparring matches only bring them closer together, complicating matters on both sides. Across Grosvenor Square, the Featheringtons must welcome the newest heir to their estate while Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) continues to navigate the ton whilst keeping her deepest secret from the people closest to her.

Sofia Vergara Is Unrecognizable in Image From Netflix Crime Series Griselda

Many of Sofia Vergara’s fans are used to seeing the actress in comedy mode as one of the lead stars of Modern Family, the hugely popular sitcom that helped the Columbian actress become the highest-paid female star in Hollywood in 2020. With the series coming to an end in April 2020, Vergara is now seemingly turning her attention to other projects, and one of those is the true-crime drama Griselda, in which she plays the title role of a drug trafficker who goes by many names. Coming from the team behind Narcos, Vergara will also be executive producer on the six-part series, which is expected to arrive on Netflix later this year, and Entertainment Weekly shared a first look at an almost unrecognizable Vergara in character.

Once known for being the cover girl of many men’s magazines such as FHM, Maxim and others, Sofia Vergara has more than proved her acting capabilities in the decades since, and while she has not managed to get that big movie break, her small screen appearances, which also includes a judging stint on America’s Got Talent, have seen her commanding the highest salary of any actress on U.S. television for a number of years. Now, with Modern Family having ended after 250 episodes, Vergara seems to be looking to get something a little more serious under her belt with her new role, one which has been a passion project of hers for almost eight years.

Griselda tells the story of the ruthless and violent drug trafficker who became one of the world’s wealthiest criminals, Griselda Blanco, also known by the pseudonyms of La Madrina, Black Widow, the Cocaine Godmother and Queen of Narco-Trafficking. In the image, Vergara is seen sitting at a table, smoking a cigarette at an office desk which is unlikely to be getting used for above-board day to day business transactions.

The story of Griselda Blanco may not be well known to many, but Sofia Vergara’s appearance in the role is not the first time the drug baroness’ story has been told on screen. Blanco’s tale as one of the most notorious U.S. drug traffickers of the 1970s and 1980s was detailed in the documentaries Cocaine Cowboys and Cocaine Cowboys II, and in 2014 it was announced that her story would be dramatized in the Lifetime movie, Cocaine Godmother, which starred Catherine Zeta-Jones as Blanco. Even almost a decade ago, the casting caused some backlash at a Welsh actress being cast in a role as a Columbian, especially when there were very few roles being made available to Hispanic stars at the time.

This time around, there are no such issues to be called out, and there is no doubt that Vergara will bring all of her talent to the role. It is not known whether the series will focus on just one part of Blanco’s life or will see her entire story play out, including her many years spent in prison and the drive-by assassination that killed her. Either way, more will become known soon enough as Netflix are clearly ready to start promoting the series, which means it will not be too long before we get to see the finished result on-screen.
