THE U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has reaffirmed that fees paid for visa applications are neither refundable nor transferable.

The clarification comes amid rising concerns among Nigerians about the high cost of applying for U.S. visas.

In a statement shared via its official X (formerly Twitter) account today, the Embassy acknowledged the frustration experienced by applicants whose visa requests are denied after paying significant fees.

“We hear your concerns regarding U.S. visa application fees. Like most countries, U.S. visa fees cover the administrative cost of processing applications, irrespective of the outcome. While fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, every application is carefully and fairly reviewed. For best results, applicants should prepare their submissions thoroughly and make use of the resources available on our website,” the statement advised.

This comes after several Nigerians expressed on social media that the visa process can be financially burdensome, especially when applications are denied without the possibility of recovering the fees.

The Embassy emphasized that visa fees are meant to cover processing costs and do not guarantee approval.

Prospective travelers were urged to follow all application guidelines meticulously and leverage the free resources on the Embassy’s website to enhance their chances of a successful outcome.
