The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed as false and misleading the rumours circulating online that the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates has been cancelled.

WAEC Nigeria’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, debunked the claims, describing them as the handiwork of “mischief-makers.”

“The examination has not been cancelled and the marking of scripts has already been completed,” she confirmed.

She further stated that the council was on track to release the results as scheduled.
“Results are expected to be released on or before Thursday, August 4,” Adesina said.

The rumour, which began circulating on Saturday, July 19, alleged that the Federal Ministry of Education and WAEC had jointly invalidated the examination due to widespread malpractice, including question leaks and unauthorised sharing of materials.

Adesina, however, denied the existence of any such directive, reiterating WAEC’s commitment to upholding the credibility of its processes.

“We urge stakeholders and the general public to disregard the said publication,” she advised.
