Daniel Atori, media aide to the Bishop of Kontagora Diocese and proprietor of the school, Most Rev. Bulus Yohanna, has said he cannot categorically confirm that all the abducted schoolchildren have been rescued.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, Atori said the diocese was yet to receive the children and their teachers.

He noted, however, that officials of the Federal Government had informed them that the victims had been rescued, adding that they were relying on the government’s assurance.

“I cannot categorically say they have all been rescued, but we are expecting more to be released,” he said.

“We have not received the children and teachers, but Federal Government officials say they have all been rescued, so we are taking their word for it.

“From the beginning, we stated that 315 persons, comprising children and their teachers, were abducted. A few days later, 50 of them escaped, leaving 265 in captivity.

“These figures were based on our headcount and verification, during which we reached out to parents to help re-identify those still missing.

“About two weeks ago, 100 of them were rescued and released to their parents, leaving 165 at that time. We are still continuing our verification and headcount while expecting more to be released,” Atori added.
