Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Minister of State for Education, has stated that the federal government lacks the means to meet all of the requests of the Academic Staff Union of Universities at the same time.
In response to the union’s assertions that the federal government is blackmailing them, the Minister told Punch that it can’t be blackmail because they’ve tried to explain to them that they’ll keep the agreements they signed as soon as the resources are available.
“We cannot possibly be blackmailing them; we tried to explain to them that we will fulfil the agreements when we have the resources. Agreements have been signed and they are meant to be fulfilled.
“But we do not have all the resources to meet all the demands at once. The thing is that we all are working together – ASUU and the Federal Government. The goal is to produce graduates, who will serve Nigeria, and to make sure that the academic calendar is running smoothly.
“So, the government will always pay its dues; you do not have to go on strike to drive home your points. They need to know that it is not the government versus ASUU. It is about doing what is right. Let us use the resources as they come. There are lots of sectors that need attention.
“All we are saying is that once there are resources, we will meet your needs; all you have to do is to keep the academic calendar running. So, please, where is the blackmail?”
Toyin Abraham Addresses Those Ridiculing Husband After Gifting Himself Lexus Suv
Popular Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham, lashes out at criticism that trailed her husband following his acquisition of a Lexus SUV.
Toyin’s husband, Kolawole Ajeyemi gifted himself a brand new Lexus SUV days after his birthday, which struck the debate of being less richer than his wife.
In reaction, the mother of one condemned the mentality of comparing wealth and status, especially one that has to do with herself and her husband.
In a now-deleted post, Toyin Abraham wrote;
“I don’t usually do this and I am only going to address this just once and I hope this ends here. People need to stop this mentality that famous people or the more famous ones are the richest in their family, relationships or even friendships.
Just because some people do not like to b**w their own horns doesn’t mean they should be seen as less or incapable.
I’m speaking up because I won’t let people talk down on my husband who is a very hard working man and is doing a lot for me and the kids. Do not ridicule his hard work and what he stands for.
Everything he has, he’s worked for with his own sweat and he deserves it. I am the last born of my family and you’d think I’m the richest just because I’m famous which is far from the truth.
It is 2022 please, we need to do better and stop this ill-mannered mentality.
Celebrate people without trying to pitch them against another person or ridicule their hard work or give credit to another. It’s so old and needs to stop.”
