Mobile Police Force officers deployed to corporate facilities and private companies, despite President Bola Tinubu’s order to withdraw police personnel from VIP protection duties, have remained at their duty posts.
Naijaonpoint recalls that the president issued a nationwide directive on Sunday to withdraw police personnel from VIP details and redeploy them to core policing functions across communities.
On Thursday, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, disclosed that 11,566 personnel earlier attached to VIP security duties had now been redeployed to mainstream policing roles nationwide.
But checks by Punch across company premises in Abuja showed that officers stationed at corporate facilities, security gates, and work sites have not vacated their posts.
On Friday, a mobile police officer providing security at a construction company in Abuja told Sunday Punch that he had received no instruction to stand down.
He said, “We have not been asked to leave, and I don’t think we would be asked to go because most of the people here are foreigners.”
A staff member of another firm in the Jabi area also confirmed that Mobile Force personnel were still reporting for duty.
The staff said, “The officers guarding our offices are still there. I also spoke with one of them yesterday, and he said the directive didn’t include those attached to companies.”
