Former Military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), has called on Christians to sustain prayers and action for national unity, peace, and cohesion, warning against external narratives that suggest religious discrimination in the country.
Speaking on Sunday night at the ongoing Global Crusade with Kumuyi [GCK] in Abuja, Gen. Gowon commended the church’s support for “Nigeria Prays” and acknowledged Pastor William Kumuyi’s leadership.
“I am not here to preach to you. I am here to say greetings to you, my brothers and sisters, for the good work you are doing,” he said.
He urged attendees to “continue to pray for Nigeria to ensure that we live as one country,” and stressed collective responsibility for peace: “Let us do whatever we can do to live in unity and peace. We have people from various religions in Nigeria, who are also praying for Nigeria.”
Addressing perceptions of division, Gen. Gowon stated: “We must ensure that we do not allow anyone from outside to give us an impression that Christians are discriminated against.”
He concluded: “We believe in the power of God to help us to keep Nigeria as one and united country. This is my message. We need to ensure that this country remains united for all of us.”
In his sermon, Pastor William Kumuyi, the General Suprintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, urged Christians to remain steadfast in the service of God to experience His daily wonder-working power.
Kumuyi, who is the Convener of the six-day programme, noted that salvation from sin remains the foundation for daily wonders and miracles in Christ.
He therefore, tasked Christians to recognise Christ as their Saviour, Shepherd and Supplier to meet all their desirable wonders.
