Veteran Comedian and actor Okechukwu Onyegbule, better known as Okey Bakassi, and his wife, Ezinne, are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.
Sharing a video collage of them and their three kids, he revealed that he met his wife in 1988, and after a few love letters, they became friends. He said the pursuit of higher education pulled them apart, but destiny brought them back together.
He noted that on the first of September, they got married in Port Harcourt, where they first met and fell in love, and are now blessed with three children. He said God has seen them through a turbulent world that is always chasing.
The veteran actor said he and his wife aren’t chasing records or trying to prove people wrong, but are just living their lives and showing themselves that they made the right decision.
“We met in 1988, a few love letters later we became friends. The pursuit of higher education pulled us apart, but destiny brought us back together. On the 1st of September 2001, in the city where we met and fell in love (Port Harcourt), we exchanged marital vows, supported by family and friends.
God has blessed us with three lovely young adults, kept us in good health and has seen us through a turbulent world that is always changing.
We are not chasing records or trying to prove people wrong. We are just living our lives and showing ourselves that we made the right decision…in love, trust, faith and humility.
Zizi, my darling wife, thanks for saying YES 25yrs ago…thanks for believing, thanks for staying, thanks for helping me find direction, thanks for your sacrifices. Please, let’s do another 25yrs and beyond….you know me as no one does. I love you forever.

On their 20th anniversary, the comic actor marvelled at the growth of their love, recounting his challenges in marriage, and how nobody believed in their love, but they stood to fight for it. The father of three showered love on his beautiful wife as they toasted to 20 years of love, sacrifice, friendship and tolerance.
For their 19th wedding anniversary, the comedian shared a heartfelt message to his wife, vowing to love Ezinne until the end of time.
On their 18th anniversary, he recalled how his wife met and married him as a young, struggling man, and today they are both enjoying the fruits of their labour with their 3 kids.
In other news, the Veteran comedian revealed a troubling issue that plagues many entertainers in Nigeria. He opened up about the disturbing experiences he faced both in Nigeria and abroad, revealing that he had been approached by fraudsters and drug dealers who gave him invitations for him to join their illicit trade.
While reflecting on his early days in Lagos, Bakassi reminisced about the various temptations he encountered. However, Okey Bakassi said he did not yield to these temptations, recognising the dangers and consequences of following such a path. He expressed his desire to lead a life that allows him to sleep soundly at night, without fear or burden from law enforcement agencies.
Back in 2017, Okey boldly revealed that “70 per cent of Nigerian celebrities” were consumers of illicit drugs. While acknowledging his own experimentation with drugs during his younger years, he emphasised that entertainers often resort to drug use as a means to enhance their creativity.
In an emotional plea, he warned ritual killers and kidnappers to stop wasting human lives for money-making purposes.
