A member of the House of Representatives from Kano State and leader of the Northern caucus in the Green Chamber, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has said loyalists of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari will continue to “speak truth to power” to ensure accountability within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Naijaonpoint reports that Doguwa spoke on Wednesday in Abuja at the public presentation of a book titled Headlines and Soundbites: Media Moments that Defined an Administration, written by a former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed.
The lawmaker stressed that loyalty to the APC does not mean blind support, noting that Buhari’s supporters would continue to point out areas that require improvement so the party does not lose touch with the people.
According to him, constructive criticism remains necessary to avoid electoral backlash in future polls.
“We will continue to tell the government and those in power the right thing to do for the people, so that when election time comes, we will not have uncomfortable questions to answer at the polls,” Doguwa said.
‘Buhari Died A Proud APC Member’
Doguwa noted that Buhari remained a committed member of the APC until his death and never renounced his membership, describing this as a major reference point for his loyalists, especially in Northern Nigeria.
“For those of us in the North, we will continue to identify with the APC and the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria because our leader died as a proud member of the party,” he said.
He added that Buhari’s loyalists within government would strive to uphold what he described as the former president’s legacy of service to ordinary Nigerians, particularly the poor and the vulnerable.
The lawmaker also said Northern Nigeria would remain politically united, adding that religious leaders and traditional rulers would continue to play vital roles in mobilising the people for meaningful participation in governance.
The event attracted several prominent political and traditional figures, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde; a former national chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande; the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris; and a former Chief of Staff to Buhari, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.
Others in attendance were a former National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno (retd.); a former presidential spokesman, Segun Adeniyi, who reviewed the book; the Emir of Argungu; as well as representatives of the Sultan of Sokoto and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
